Fun Hustle

Last week was a fun hustle with the band: rehearsing, shooting new pictures, doing gigs and mixing the ep. Touring in Finland during this time of the year is something else! Since the sun is up only a few hours per day, it is already dark when packing the car for the trip. However, the gigs were a blast. It is always nice to get to play the songs for “real people” after being in studio for a while. I probably got a little bit too carried away on Saturday’s gig in Saarijärjvi, since my neck is not moving today..but it was worth it:)

The good news is that our first ep is almost done and the master will be ready this month. It won’t be published until April, but the video will come out in the beginning of the next year. I can’t really wait to get to show you all what we’ve gotten done this year.

Here is a picture  by Sami Funke from the gig in Mikkeli.

Making a video

This summer has been busy recording and making a video. We recorded in June and July in Drumforest studio and got a lot done. The recording continues, but we managed to have time to shoot a video too…And it was fun! We shoot the video this week in Kangasniemi, a little town in South-Eastern Finland. We shoot at this big abandoned house. Everybody had their hands full and our make-up artist Anni and costumier Elina were suppose to create fife different characters out of me and make the boys look old. Right away I managed to get wrinkles in my dress and made Elina mad:)

The guys had a bunch of fun playing to be old people for one day…quite dirty little grandpas they became! As the night started to fall, the abandoned house started to be quite a atmospheric place to be. The wine bottle on the table was found in the closet and is older than any of the guys.

We named this costume below a popcorn and since popcorns don’t have appendices, Anni had to cover the scar from my appendix surgery.

In the night we drove to the middle of the forest and shoot the last scene of the day by a deserted car. It was cold as in polar bear’s stomach and I have to admit…quite scary. We had shoot around 20 hours, but it’s not that often that I get to play an indian, arabic princess and popcorn, so the time had flied.

We didn’t see any ghosts in the abandoned house in the night, but when we returned the next day it started to haunt. Something made such a noise inside of the house that we had to count the crew in the case that we had accidentally locked someone in the night before. Otherwise the last day was relaxed and only thing delaying the shoot was bees that really wanted to make a nest in my mouth.

Hopefully, the video will be published in November, can’t wait to let you guys see it!!

Yes We Can…

For the last six months we’ve been searching for a decent place to rehearse. We finally found it, but it needed some renovation that we could not afford…so what the heck, we thought, and we took the matter in our own hands:) Luckily, Antti Luukkonen documented the process…otherwise nobody would believe that we could have done it by ourselves:)

This is how it started…

The hammer still stays in Jaska’s hand…later that day it broke his finger…

Still smiling…

The last touch…

Testing…

And after all this works a furious lady ran instantly from upstairs yelling:” God damn it, stop the awefull noice we have an important meeting upstairs!!!!!. ” So we had to take a wall down again and enhance the acoustics..Luckily the boys can be gentlemen and managed to make the angry lady smile at the end:)

February 2011

It’s been a year since I started the solo project. Now I have a great band around me, fun gigs behind me and today the firs single is released, yay!!

When I started the project, I have to admit, I wondered once or twice, what is the point of starting all over again. BUT when I am out of inspiration and  Eero brings me a new song, or someone calls me up, because he has an idea for our next music video I can’t help getting excited as a toddler!!!!

So, the studio is booked for the summer and we are starting to work on our firs album. Now we are writing new songs.  Can’t wait to play them live so I’m looking forward for the gigs this spring. The boys are persuading me to play some electric violin in them… so you never know:)
